Freshwater East Beach

Pembroke, Benfro / Pembrokeshire

A sandy beach backed by dunes and surrounding headland. Historially this secluded beach was a haunt for smugglers. Now particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts and local fishermen. Local amenities include a holiday park and Freshwater East village.

We always enjoy our stays at Freshwater East and enjoy our time on this lovely beach.
We discovered on the rocks at far end of the beach at low tide an inscription in the rocks which reads PENGY 1942 - m-> and a smiley face and further round the initals CS

We are interested in who PENGY is and how it would have been inscribed all those years ago.

If anyone can find out any information, please can you let me know?.

A Google search shows this obituary. Date is quite a coincidence!?

We too saw the pengy inscription on Freshwater beach. Not sure if it was inscribed in 1942 or is that a birth date with the final date pending ? It seems to have been made useing a drill as there are round holes to make up each letter. But who is Pengy ???

I too am intrigued by the Pengy 1942 - at the far left end of Freshwater East beach. The M_+ is a zodiac sign for Scorpio - thats all we know.
